Big changes for Eagle County’s open space regulations
Eagle County is changing many of the rules and regulations on its open space lands. Some of those changes come with increased fees and penalties. The Eagle County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved those changes on a 2-0 vote, with Commissioners Matt Scherr and Jeanne McQueeney voting in favor of the new rules. Commissioner Kathy Chandler-Henry was absent.

Battle Mountain graduates 214 students at 64th commencement
Battle Mountain High School graduated the Class of 2024 on Friday in a commencement ceremony that celebrated challenges overcome. The Edwards high school’s 64th commencement took place at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail and graduated 214 students — 22 of whom were cum laude with grade point averages of 3.75 to 3.99, 26 of whom were magna cum laude with grade point averages of 4.0 to 4.24, and 23 of whom were summa cum laude with a grade point average of 4.25 or better.

Obituary: Ueli Burki
Longtime local passed away peacefully in his home on May 17, 2024 in Eagle Colorado. Ulrich Burki was 80 years old, born and raised in Bern Switzerland. Ulrich was an accomplished trumpet player in the Eagle Valley and played with many great bands. His own family band Jazzoompa and the high energy, I-70 Horn Section, to name a few. In addition to his musical gifts, he was a professional mechanic and business owner. He owned and ran the Viking Garage in Eagle Colorado for 23 years. He will be missed greatly by Rosie Burki, his beloved sweetheart and wife of 68 years. He will also be missed by his two sons Roy and Allen Burki. There will be a celebration of life at the former Viking Garage building where his business began in 1980. Date of celebration of life will be announced later.

Carbondale resident dies after motorcycle accident on Highway 82
Marshall Eanes, a 23-year-old resident of Carbondale, died Sunday, May 19 after a motorcycle accident on Highway 82 at the intersection of Catherine Store Road. According to Colorado State Patrol, Eanes was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a helmet and turning onto Highway 82 when he collided with a Nissan Altima heading eastbound toward Aspen.
