About a week after Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced initial evidence of invasive zebra mussels in the Colorado River near Grand Junction, the agency has confirmed more signs. The species, which is known for its rapid reproduction rate, poses an “extreme risk” to Colorado’s ecology, according to Colorado Parks and...
Setting up Eagle County’s new regional transit authority requires a lot more than handing over keys to buses
Changing the valley’s transit system from the Eagle County government-run ECO transit to the Eagle Valley Regional Transportation Authority — now Core Transit — involves more than just handing over the keys to more than 50 buses. Just about everything, from control of bus stops to ownership...

The Vail Valley Theatre Company just came off a six-night streak of sold-out shows on July 16-21 for their production, “Cabaret” but the performers aren’t stopping anytime soon. The frenzy of rehearsals, building sets, sewing costumes, selling tickets and the energy of performing in front of a live audience can be addictive.
Eagle County Real Estate Market Report: As inventory rises, will buyers follow?
The market has settled into its historic (pre-COVID-19) pattern with inventory rising and expected to increase into early August. As of the third week of July 2024, there are approximately 465 residential properties currently for sale, up 25% from a year ago. This bodes well for buyers looking to make a move before the end of summer and the start of the winter season.

Wissot: You deserved better, Joe
Nature is cruel and politics crueler. You certainly earned the right, Joe Biden, to run again and defend your record as president. It wasn’t your job performance as president that hurt you. It was nature’s cruel timetable for physical and cognitive decline that dealt the first blow. It was the plastic, cosmetic, nature of politics that values style over substance that delivered the fatal blow. You were crucified for how you performed in a 90-minute debate. It left a dark cloud over all you achieved in 3 1/2 years in office.
Author visits The Bookworm of Edwards to talk about living off-grid in Colorado
As housing and renting costs rise, people are getting more and more creative, and there seems to be a draw for many to rural areas. One such area is the San Luis Valley of southeastern Colorado, where after subdivision projects failed, 5 acre plots in the high desert can be purchased for relatively cheap. In May 2017, author Ted Conover bought one of those five acre plots to see what off-grid life looked like firsthand, and lived off that land over the course of four years. Conover wrote a book about his experiences and will be at The Bookworm of Edwards to share.

The Movie Guru: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ the comic team-up of the MCU’s dreams
I am delighted to inform you that “Deadpool & Wolverine” was worth the wait. Fans of Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool” movies have been waiting since 2018 for the third installment in the series, which has faced any number of issues. The biggest of these was when Disney bought the rights to the character as part of their 20th Century Fox acquisition, threatening to tame the series so much it became unrecognizable. Reynolds fought back, determined to hold to the character’s essential nature, but even the fans knew there was only so much he could do. Surely something would be lost under the Disney umbrella, no matter how hard he tried.

Kroger, Albertsons agree to pause merger impacting Western Slope grocery stores while lawsuits proceed
A proposed merger of grocery behemoths Kroger and Albertsons is on pause after the companies agreed to wait to proceed until legal action against the deal is complete. The halt comes after Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser filed a temporary injunction in the state’s case opposing the merger. Weiser filed a lawsuit to stop the merger in February, arguing it would eliminate competition and impact food prices, jobs and consumer choice.
Letter: West End project belongs in Denver, not Edwards
There is no question we need housing and the Edwards location is prime and convenient. The proposed 275 units on the 4.9-acre site have 430,000 square feet and are up to 65 feet tall in parts of the structure. This is the combined size of Avon’s Home Depot, Walmart, and the new Marriott Hotel in Avon.
Letter: When will we take on noise pollution?
How we define an issue is key to understanding that we have one. In the Vail Valley, pollution is a critical issue that impacts our quality of life and the value of our properties. Adverse air quality, trash, or contaminants in our water are non-negotiables that would generate an immediate response from our community.
