Wastewater plant issue leads DEQ to fine the city
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $5,200 fine to the city of Philomath “for discharging wastes from its water treatment plant without a permit.”. In a June 27 letter to the city, DEQ wrote, “Specifically, on at least one day, plastic filter beads escaped from the treatment plant’s filters and discharged to an oxbow of the Marys River.”

Residents of Corvallis attend Open Streets Corvallis, an annual event held between Garfield Park and Cloverland Park in Corvallis OR. Open Streets includes live music, food and drinks, a wide variety of interactive activities, and more. It is free and open to the public, held every summer. The event took place on July 21 2024 and temporarily closed down a stretch of NW Garfield Ave for bike riders and attendees of all ages.
Cable installation to begin for OSU-led wave energy testing facility off Oregon Coast
Later this month, crews will begin installing the power and data cables that are essential to completing construction of a new wave energy testing facility off the Oregon Coast. The cables will support Oregon State University’s PacWave South, the first pre-permitted, utility-scale, grid-connected wave energy test site in the United States. When the facility is completed, wave energy developers will be able to test different technologies for harnessing the power of ocean waves and transmitting that energy to the local electrical grid. ...
Florence, North Bend, and Roseburg seeing sustained COVID-19 case increases
LANE AND DOUGLAS COUNTIES, Ore. – Parts of Oregon are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases right now and state health officials are urging people to be cautious. According to the Oregon Health Authority’s website, Florence, North Bend, and Roseburg are seeing a sustained increase in the amount of COVID-19 tested in those areas’ wastewater samples, with Corvallis also seeing a slight increase. The Centers for Disease Control reported that Oregon, overall, is seeing more COVID cases than the national average and, while there are likely more unreported cases now than there were during the pandemic, more health officials are using a new method for testing for the virus.
