A Sweet Home man died in the early morning hours of Sept. 19 when his motorcycle struck an elk near Scio. On Tuesday at 12:15 a.m., Linn County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred at 36600 Richardson Gap Rd., near Scio. Deputies arrived and learned that 22-year-old Stewart Curtis of Sweet Home was riding a black 2020 Yamaha motorcycle when he struck a cow elk in the roadway. Curtis sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, as did the elk. LCSO's initial investigation showed that speed was a factor in the crash.

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 4:59 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy-34, near milepost 1, in Linn County. The preliminary investigation indicated a Ford Fusion, operated by Jimmie Eugene Beck Jr (19) of Newport, was westbound on Hwy-34 in the fast lane. The Ford left the fast lane, crossing the center turn lane and into the oncoming eastbound lane where it struck a silver Nissan Versa, operated by Jennifer Davina Gere (43) of Lebanon, head-on. The operator of the Nissan (Gere) was declared deceased, by responding medical personnel, at the scene. The operator of the Ford (Beck Jr) was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries. The highway was impacted for approximately 6 hours during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation. OSP was assisted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Department, Corvallis PD, and Corvallis Fire.

On a hot July day the East Linn Museum held its annual yard sale. Volunteers tending the cash box sat watching seekers pass among tables loaded with donated goods on their yearly treasure hunt. Most shoppers were dressed less than more in light weight clothing. A number showcased tattoos. Many lengths of hair in varied colors also passed by, green, blue, purple, pink and maroon.

The first incident involved a fatal head-on crash on Highway 34, where a Ford Fusion driven by a 19-year-old man crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a Nissan Versa, resulting in the death of the Nissan's driver. The second incident involved the Albany police testing a new program aimed at improving their response to calls involving individuals with communication difficulties.
