STATE POLICE SEEKS PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING A SUSPECT VEHICLE IN DOUGLAS COUNTY, OREGON
DOUGLAS COUNTY, OR - On Monday, May 29, 2023, at 10:24 PM, a shooting was reported on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 124, in Douglas County. Oregon State Police detectives developed a suspect in the case: Ryan Lucas MacArt (33), of Winston, OR. On Friday, June 2, 2023, with assistance from OSP SWAT, detectives arrested MacArt for Attempted Assault 1, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Menacing. MacArt was lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
TWO MAN JAILED, STOLEN ITEMS RECOVERED
Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed two men and recovered numerous stolen items from two DCSO cases early Sunday. A DCSO report said at 2:40 a.m. units conducted follow up in the 1000 block of Southeast Main Street in Roseburg. A search warrant was obtained for a pickup and a residence where additional stolen items were recovered.

WOMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AFTER ALLEGED STABBING INCIDENT
Roseburg Police charged a woman with second-degree assault after an alleged stabbing incident on Saturday. An RPD report said sometime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. a victim was allegedly stabbed by the 37-year old during an argument in the area of Gaddis Park in the 800 block of Northwest Highland Street. The victim was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center and evaluated for a large laceration on his back-shoulder blade.
FOUR CITED FOR DEPOSITING TRASH WITHIN ONE HUNDRED YARDS OF A WATERWAY
Four people were cited for depositing trash within one-hundred yards of a waterway on Monday. A Roseburg Police report said at 8:45 a.m. the individuals were contacted in their camps between the ball fields and the river at Gaddis Park, in the 800 block of Northwest Highland Street. All camps were approximately twenty feet from the water’s edge. A 60-year old man had a large amount of trash blocking the lower road, making it impassable. A 49-year old’s camp contained approximately ten cubic yards of items and debris. The other individuals, ages 30 and 38, were contacted at their tent, which was surrounded by a few bags worth of loose trash.
DCSO JAILS MAN AFTER ALLEGED DISTURBANCE IN MELROSE AREA
A man was jailed after an alleged disturbance in the Melrose area early Saturday morning. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 3:00 a.m. the 25-year old allegedly broke numerous windows out of vehicles in the 200 block of Silver Maple Street. The suspect also allegedly pushed a victim and dragged her on the concrete causing abrasions. He was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and for harassment.
Residents safe after house fire sparks in Roseburg
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — Two adults and their pets are safe after a fire set their house up in flames Sunday afternoon, said the Roseburg Fire Department (RFD). RFD says crews responded to a reported residential structure fire around 2:49 p.m. Sunday, at 1912 Kane Street, with flames reportedly visible at the front of the residence. According to Douglas County Dispatch, the reporting party stated that all residents and animals evacuated the home.
HOME SUSTAINS EXTENSIVE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IN SUNDAY FIRE
A home sustained extensive structural damage in a fire on Sunday. Fire Chief Tyler Christopherson of the Roseburg Fire Department said at about 2:50 p.m. personnel responded to the report of a structure fire in the 1900 block of Southeast Kane Street. Christopherson said dispatchers had received information that the home was on fire with smoke and flames visible at the front of the residence. The reporting party stated the all residents and animals had evacuated the home.
MAN JAILED AFTER FOOT PURSUIT ON SATURDAY
A Roseburg man was jailed after a foot pursuit on Saturday. A Roseburg Police report said just after 5:00 p.m. an officer saw the 30-year old walking on the sidewalk and ran him for wants and warrants. The officer discovered the man was out of compliance on his sex offender registration and had not reported in over two years.
PAIR JAILED AFTER ALLEGED BURGLARY INCIDENT
Roseburg Police jailed two people for an alleged burglary on Friday. An RPD report said just after 9:00 a.m. 46-year old Christopher Stutte and 33-year old Kimberly Thompson were detained after they allegedly entered a garage in the 700 block of Northeast Nash Street and stole a credit card from inside.
MAN JAILED FOLLOWING ALLEGED CAMAS VALLEY ASSAULT
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man following an alleged assault in the Camas Valley area early Sunday. A DCSO report said at about 1:00 a.m. 42-year old Neil Germond and a victim were involved in a disturbance in the 16000 block of Highway 42. The victim claimed that Germond had shattered her cell phone and thrown it into a fire. The victim said the suspect threw her to the ground three times, injuring both of her legs and left hand. She also claimed of pain to her head. The victim was taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center by ambulance.

Douglas County is witnessing significant successes in wetland restoration and regenerative farming, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Foster Creek Conservation District (FCCD) and their partners. With a strong connection between the local community and the landscape, the FCCD, in collaboration with the Colville Tribe and Department of Ecology, has been actively restoring Foster Creek since 2015. These restoration efforts have been further bolstered by new grant funding from Ecology, enabling the district to work towards their goals of restoring the watershed, monitoring water quality, and improving soil health. The projects are scheduled for completion by 2025 and hold great promise for the region.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH RECKLESS BURNING FOLLOWING FIRE IN THE CURTIN AREA
A woman was arrested and charged with reckless burning, following a fire in the Curtin area on Saturday night. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 9:30 p.m. a deputy responded to the 2000 block of Buck Creek Road after a caller said a structure was on fire. When the deputy arrived, they observed a shed and a hillside on fire. Nearby houses were also in danger of catching on fire. The 36-year old said she was burning weeds with a torch.
Shop destroyed, house damaged by fire in Curtin
CURTIN, Ore. – A residential shop was destroyed and a nearby home was damaged by fire last Saturday evening in Curtin, according to North Douglas County fire officials. Authorities said that North Douglas County Fire and EMS responded to a structure fire at 8:20 p.m. on June 3 on Buck Creek Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a residential shop fully involved in fire, the exterior of a second home on fire, and a third home threatened by fire, fire officials said.
AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING FATAL APARTMENT FIRE IN WINSTON
Authorities are investigating a fatal apartment fire that took place Saturday morning in Winston. A release from the City of Winston Police Department said at 6:45 a.m. officers from WPD along with deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the blaze at the Blueridge Apartments in the 100 block of Southwest Hart Avenue. It was reported that flames could be seen coming out of an apartment on the top floor with smoke spreading throughout the quadplex. Crews from the Winston-Dillard Fire District, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and the City of Roseburg Fire Department responded and were able to extinguish the fire.

ROSEBURG, Ore. – No injuries were reported but a Roseburg home was severely damaged by fire on Sunday afternoon, authorities said. Roseburg fire officials said they responded to a house fire at 2:49 p.m. on June 4 on Southeast Kane Street. FIRE SEASON BEGINS ON FRIDAY
The Douglas Forest Protective Association, the Umpqua National Forest, and the Bureau of Land Management have announced that the 2023 fire season will begin on Friday. All private, county, state and Bureau of Indian Affairs land within the Douglas District as well as public lands within the Umpqua National Forest and Roseburg District BLM are included in this fire season declaration, which imposes certain fire restrictions on the public and industrial operators to help prevent wildfires.
