Charleston man arrested on numerous charges after a burglary, K9 track
On April 22nd, 2024, at 8:16 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Seven Devils Road near the Charleston Boat Basin. The homeowners could give a suspect identification from security cameras on the property. K9 Poe responded to the location and tracked the suspect, which provided Deputies with additional evidence, ultimately aiding in the suspect’s arrest. Sgt....
Lakeside man arrested on the charge of Assault II after using a knife during an argument
On April 23rd, 2024, at about 6:09 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a stabbing at the Seaport R.V. Park located at 72363 Hwy 101, Lakeside, Oregon. Dispatch further advised the disturbance was between family members. Sgt. J. Boswell, Deputy A. Churchill, an Oregon State Police Trooper, and medical personnel responded to the scene. The victim was tended to for a knife wound to the hand. The suspect, Anthony J. Carey (40), was located and arrested on the charge of Assault II. Mr. Carey was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.
North Bend girls sweep Phoenix in tennis
North Bend’s girls blanked Phoenix 8-0 in a tennis match last week. The Bulldogs swept the singles with Raegan Farm, Aubrey Moore and Grace Clark winning in straight sets and Kamryn Van Elsberg winning in three sets. In doubles, North Bend’s winning teams were Olivia Smith and Madison West, Darrah Windham and Sasha Holt, Lexi Eiselein and Mila Davidson, and Hazel Schrag and Hannah Worch.
Local Golf Round Up; Bandon boys win golf tournament
Bandon’s boys golf team won a tournament at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort last Thursday. The Tigers shot 314 to take the title in the event, which had several schools and was contested on the Old Macdonald course. Brookings-Harbors Lucas Vanderlip won medalist honors with a 73. Local Track Round Up: Coquille’s Millet places second in javelin at Oregon Relays
Coquille’s Callie Millet had a big personal best to place second in the javelin at the Oregon Relays on Friday night, the highest finish by a South Coast athlete in the event that included top athletes from several states. Millet’s throw of 135 feet, 7 inches was second to West Linn’s Hayden Williams Downing, who won with a mark of 148-4. North Bend cheer team wins another national title
North Bend’s cheerleading team recently added to its collection of national titles in the SHARP Nationals, winning its small/medium division in a competition held in Las Vegas. The Bulldogs have now won at Las Vegas six times and also have taken two West Coast Championship titles in California and won a world championship in Hawaii in recent years. This year’s squad includes Amyaika Funk, Addi Carlstrom, Vanessa Alvarez, Kiyannah Reed, Addy Hansen, Addy Garrett, Maili Huber-Ellis and Kylee Dilts. The Bulldogs are coached by Lena Franson and her daughter, Brittany. This winter, North Bend also placed fourth in the OSAA championships for the Class 4A traditional division.

Marshfield’s softball team suffered its first Sky-Em League loss on Friday, but still leads the Sky-Em League after winning its other two games during the week. The Pirates opened the week with a 17-11 win over North Bend. Gracie Peach had three hits, four runs and five RBIs in the win, with both a double and home run. Bandon man arrested on several charges after a report of a domestic assault
On April 20th, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center took a report of an assault that had occurred on Astor Lane just south of Bandon, Oregon. Deputies S. Starr and H. Francis responded and began investigating the incident. As a result of the investigation, Deputy S. Starr applied for and was granted a search warrant for the suspect, Shawn M. Brown’s (56) residence. The warrant was executed, items of evidence were seized, and Shawn M. Brown (56), who was inside, was arrested. Mr. Brown was charged with Assault IV Domestic, Menacing, Strangulation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest. Mr. Brown was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.
Stuck vehicle at the North Spit is recovered just before high tid
On April 18th, 2024, at 7:04 p.m., Deputy M.R. Smith from the Sheriff’s Office Dunes Division and North Bend Towing Company promptly and efficiently assisted a subject who became stuck in wet sand on the North Spit. The operator was driving on the beach when wet sand pulled his vehicle out towards the water, burying him to the frame of his vehicle while high tide was coming in. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind those operating vehicles on the beach to know their surroundings and the ever-changing conditions.

Some of the best youth chess players in Oregon competed Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, at the Chess for Success State Tournament at the Expo Center in Portland. Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dunes Division offers Youth Rider Safety Education
It’s that time of the year, riding season is here! All Class I, Class III, and Class IV OHV’s (for youth) are required to have a Rider Safety Education Card when operating on public lands. Go to https://www.rideatvoregon.org/ and follow the steps to receive your FREE rider education card. Youth riders under the age of 16, are required to complete the online portion and a hands-on portion to receive their Rider Safety Education Card. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office conducts the hands-on portion for youth rider education. Stranded paddle boarder at Sunset Beach rescued
On April 19th, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a call to assist the U.S. Coast Guard with visually locating a stranded paddle boarder at Sunset Beach. Deputy K. Mong responded to Sunset Beach and could see the woman was stranded on a sand bar past the rocks, and relayed this information to the U.S. Coast Guard, who was not yet on the scene. With the help of a good samaritan in a kayak and the U.S. Coast Guard, the lady was rescued unharmed.
