Mental health arrest
ALBANY, N.Y. — A federal court in New York preserved an Oneida citizen’s excessive force, failure to accommodate and assault claims against an officer who kicked him while he was handcuffed for behavior he exhibited during a mental breakdown related to his bipolar disorder. The kick was not justified, and the officer was aware of the disability but did not properly de-escalate the situation or perform a mental health arrest instead.
Free Meals On The Way For Central New York Schoolchildren
If you have school aged children in Central New York, there is some good news about lunches starting in 2024. Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES announced earlier this year an amendment to their policy for serving meals to children under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Which means, starting January 1st 2024, all school districts participating in the OHM BOCES food service program will serve meals to school kids for free under the Community Eligibility Program.
Local Band, Bar Raise Bedding for Sleep in Heavenly Peace
A local Classic Rock band, a local bar/restaurant, and giving people from Central New York all exceeded their goal to collect bedding for local kids in need. The band Dusty Puppies performed at Station 233 - The Simple Bar in Westmoreland on Friday night and asked their fans to bring new twin sized bedding to benefit Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a local charity that builds beds and provides them to local kids who don't have one.
Camden boys bowlers victorious at annual Holiday Bakers tournament
Teams from 11 Section III schools took part the the annual Holiday Bakers bowling tournament at the Lucky Strike Lanes in Camden on Saturday. Participating in this year’s tournament were teams from Adirondack, Camden, Chittenango, Cicero-North Syracuse, East Syracuse Minoa, New Hartford, Rome Free Academy, Sherburne-Earlvile, Utica Proctor, Vernon Verona Sherrill and Waterville.
