New pub opens near Honeoye Lake with beef on weck, burgers | Exclusive

Meech is a beloved pet, specifically April Baylor's Chihuahua Daschund pug, a 10-year-old chiweenie who curls up under desk. Meech is also in the name of Baylor's pub, which opened over the Halloween weekend near Honeoye Lake in the space that most recently housed various incarnations of the Valley Inn, and has been in use, off and on, as a restaurant for years. Even before opening, it seems Meech's was on everyone's lips. "Everyone asks," Baylor said. "It's so funny." Baylor, 26, has worked in the food industry for years, mostly serving and bartending. When this place came up for sale, Honeoye's small-town vibe was a perfect fit for Baylor's small-town vibe. "A girl with a dream," said Baylor, a Rushville native who said she has worked all over Canandaigua, Bristol and Naples through the years. Baylor loves the people aspect of the food service industry, seeing people from all walks of life and meeting people from all over. The fast-paced environment is a bonus. "Some of my best friends are people I've met from behind the bar or sitting next to them at a bar or restaurant," Baylor said. On the Meech's Pub menu Expect to choose from a

MOSU Asian BBQ & Hot Pot has opened in the former Red Lobster at 655 Jefferson Road in Henrietta. It is the second location for the Albany-based restaurant. The restaurant offers two interactive all-you-care-to-eat experiences: Asian BBQ, in which diners cook their food on gas-fired ceramic charcoal grills, or hot pot, in which they cook their food in broth. Diners have two hours in which to enjoy their meals. The Asian barbecue menu includes beef, lamb, poultry, seafood and vegetable choices. The hot pot menu is made up of broth bases, ranging from mild to spicy, to be combined with meat, seafood, vegetables, noodles and/or rice. The menu offers vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, halal and gluten-friendly options. Its bar also serves craft cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer, sake, soju and an a la carte menu of shareable plates. Happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with 20% off bar fare, house wines, beer and sake. Built in the mid-1970s, the Red Lobster building had been vacant since May 2024, when the casual-dining seafood chain shut down dozens of locations nationwide and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy (from which it later emerged). The location at 1515 W. Ridge Road,

5 Best Restaurants in Rochester, New York You Need to Try Before Everyone Else Finds Them

Rochester, New York — a city where the Genesee River tumbles through old brick mills and lilacs bloom in the spring, where the laughter of college students mingles with the wisdom of old-timers, and the scent of coffee, barbecue, and fresh bread drifts through neighborhoods stitched together by memory and migration. Here, the architecture is a patchwork: grand mansions on East Avenue, sturdy worker’s cottages, and the gentle sprawl of new ambition. Rochester is a city where the snow falls deep and the spirit runs deeper — where families gather at festivals, artists paint the city’s story, and every meal is a celebration of resilience and reinvention.

The 10 Remote Finger Lakes, New York Diners Most Travelers Never Find

Breakfast at one country diner can cost less than a fancy coffee, and I love that math. The doors open at 5 AM, so early birds can dig in before most alarms even ring. Getting to places like that usually means leaving the busy lakeside traffic far behind you. You’ll roll down quiet county roads between the lakes, where the towns seem to get smaller with every mile.

Trader Joe's plans 2 new New York stores. See where they're going

Two new Trader Joe's stores are planned for New York, expanding the popular grocery chain's presence in the state. The California-based retailer announced plans this summer to open new locations in the Syracuse area and Yonkers as part of its latest nationwide expansion. The plans add to the company's growth in New York, which includes a Long Island store that opened earlier this year. The expansion comes as Trader Joe's continues to draw shoppers with its private-label products and competitively priced groceries. Where are the new Trader Joe's stores? According to Trader Joe's, the two planned stores will be located at: Camillus: 3515 W. Genesee St., in the Syracuse area. Yonkers: 2482 Central Park Ave. The Camillus store, located just west of Syracuse in Onondaga County, will be about 9,000 square feet and become the area's second Trader Joe's. The existing Syracuse-area store is at 3422 Erie Blvd. E. in DeWitt. The Yonkers location will cover about 10,000 square feet. When will the new Trader Joe's stores open? Trader Joe's has not announced opening dates for either New York location. Spokeswoman Nakia Rohde said new stores typically open within three to six months of being announced. Based on that timeline,

Roc Lobster brings fresh seafood to the (585)

The shores of Lake Ontario might not be brimming with lobster, but it’s not hard to find a top-tier, fresh, juicy roll right in the (585). I like a lot of foods, but seafood is my favorite, and I don’t think that will ever change. East Coast and West Coast, I’ve had it all, seafood in every coastal town from Newport, Oregon, down to San Francisco, California, Long Island to Boston. So when it comes to seafood, if I say it’s good, it’s good. And Roc Lobster? Very good.

Fairport’s Compané Trattoria offers a new generation of Italian cooking

The cheese tray at the brewery was built for four people, not the crowd of us circling it like vultures fifteen minutes into a two-hour panel discussion. We stood there staring at what looked like a Polly Pocket accessory, doing the math on how a roomful of thirty adults were supposed to split eleven cubes of pepper jack.
