Many years ago, my baby sister was a new graduate, with an education degree from the University of Toledo. She wanted to work for the local school district of Toledo Public Schools. Not knowing where exactly to apply and very nervous as well, she waited for the elevator to arrive. It came down, the door opened. She must have looked lost enough for, what she told me she remembered, this nice, tall, Black man asked her if she needed help. She told him her situation, and this gentleman turned around and went back up in the elevator with her and showed her where to apply. She got the job. Point Place family safe after home ignites in flames early Friday
TOLEDO, Ohio — A family in Point Place is safe after their house caught on fire early Friday. The flames began at a home on 137th Street around 1:15 a.m. The Toledo Fire Battalion Chief at the scene told WTOL a child inside the home smelled smoke and woke up their parent. They then grabbed another infant and baby chickens and ran outside.

Urban Wholistics hosted the fifth National Minority Health Month Community Wellness Celebration on Saturday at the University of Toledo Recreation Center where Ms. Shepherd served as celebrity guest speaker, sharing her fitness journey that began at the age of 56. “People say ‘gee I’m 50, 60, I can't do that, it's too late,’ but I'm repeating: It's never, ever too late,” she said.
Monroe man killed in Erie Township crash
ERIE — A three-car crash left one person dead in Erie Township on Monday evening, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said. Monroe resident Gary Akridge, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Mr. Akridge was traveling northbound in an SUV on Telegraph Road at about 11:45 p.m. when he crossed the centerline and struck an SUV driven by Ghassan Haddad, 58, of Dearborn, Mich. The SUV driven by Mr. Akridge overturned and was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kaylee Stachowiak, 19, of Monroe.
