Anyone who wanted candy on Halloween didn’t need to walk around town going door-to-door. All they needed to do is come downtown, where local business, civic leaders, and others set up booths and gave out free candy to anyone who wanted. The line went all the way from the vicinity of Hale Springs Inn at one end of downtown to beyond the offices of The Rogersville Review at the other end. This was the 17th year in which Rogersville has featured a downtown Trunk or Treat event. A costume contest was part of the festivities.

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) — Cocke County officials discussed the possibility of forming a dedicated hazmat team during a review of the emergency plan Wednesday morning. Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday this year, Nov. 11, 2026. If you're a veteran, or you're traveling with one, the Smokies make a good place to spend it. You get a free day in the national park, a long-running ceremony in Gatlinburg and a handful of military discounts at attractions in Pigeon Forge , Gatlinburg and Sevierville . Here's what we could confirm for 2026, and where to double-check before you go. Free parking in the Smokies on Veterans Day Great Smoky Mountains National Park never charges an entrance fee, but you normally need a parking tag ($5 a day, $15 a week or $40 a year) to park anywhere in the park for more than 15 minutes. Nov. 11 is one of the Park Service's 2026 fee-free days, and the park says parking tags will not be required on those dates . Rangers still enforce the other parking rules, so don't park on the shoulder or in a no-parking zone. Popular trailheads still fill up early, even in November. Rogersville Rotary honors growing RMS Interact Club

On Monday, Oct. 26, the Rogersville Rotary Club hosted its second annual recognition ceremony for the Rogersville Middle School (RMS) Interact Club. The event drew several distinguished guests, including Hawkins County Director of Schools Matt Hixson, Hawkins County Mayor David Linkous, and Rotary President Molly Buckholz, alongside school faculty, parents, guardians, Rotarians, and prospective Interact members. Hixson opened the morning ceremony by welcoming attendees and praising the club’s exceptional enrollment growth for the current school year. He expressed immense pride in the students for stepping out of their comfort zones to engage in community service, noting that the RMS Interact Club has nearly tripled its membership. Following Hixson’s remarks, Lead Club Advisor Mrs. Christy Waye provided an overview of the students’ achievements and ongoing academic initiatives. She expressed her gratitude to Hixson, RMS Principal Dr. Krista Mann, and Mayor Linkous for their steadfast support before introducing the Rotary President. Officers were then recognized by Club Sponsor Matt Myers. Rotary President Molly Buckholz then presented the newly elected officers with their official certificates and induction pins. Knox County Schools starts warning employees of layoffs in their departments

Knox County Schools has begun alerting employees across all divisions of its central office that they might lose their jobs this summer as leaders face budgetary pressures. Roughly 50 positions will be eliminated in July, about a quarter of which are supervisory or administrative roles, Superintendent Jon Rysewyk said. "Our 91 schools are the most important functional piece of how our kids are successful," Rysewyk told Knox News. "We continue to cut when we don't have the dollars to get there and the cost of things continue to go up. It's our job to make sure that we're preserving the schools as best we can." KCS officials did not say which departments' employees have been notified. Knox News has learned educational diagnosticians and members of the IT department and therapeutic professional partnership program were told positions in their departments will be cut. "Out of respect for our staff, we will not be able to confirm specifics until all employees have been notified," KCS spokesperson Carly Harrington told Knox News. "We can, however, confirm that reductions are being made across every division of the district office." Employees whose jobs will be eliminated will know if they are rehired elsewhere in the
