Wanted Maryville man in custody
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday, June 8, that it had located and arrested Jeffrey Lynn Potter, 49, of Six Mile Road, Maryville. BCSO took to Facebook Wednesday, asking for help from the public in locating Potter, who was wanted on warrants for violation of community supervision, felony evading arrest, misdemeanor evading arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was located by Blount County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force and taken into custody Thursday afternoon.

KNOXVILLE -- On June 7, 2023, a federal grand jury in Knoxville returned a one-count indictment against Melody Sasser, 47, of Knoxville for use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire. Sasser was arrested on Thursday, May 18, 2023, pursuant to a criminal complaint. An arraignment has been scheduled for June 21, 2023 at 1:30 pm.

Man found dead on abandoned Tennessee trail in 1986 is positively identified
CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. (TCD) -- Officials identified a homicide victim last week whose skeletal remains were found along an abandoned and isolated trail in 1986. According to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), hunters discovered the remains near Caney Valley on Aug. 24, 1986. TBI agents and the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office determined the victim was a white male between 30 and 40 years old who had been fatally shot. The University of Tennessee Anthropology Department reportedly concluded the victim had been dead for around six months to a year before the remains were found.
