Washington Locals Keep Coming Back To This Tacoma Soul Food Spot For Crispy Fried Chicken And Cheddar Bay Biscuit Waffles
Some restaurants earn a following through billboards. Others earn it one plate at a time, until the line forms before the doors even open on a Saturday morning. In Tacoma, there is a small soul food spot that has pulled off exactly that, with more than a thousand happy guests singing its praises and a near-perfect 4.8-star standing. The secret is no secret at all: crispy fried chicken stacked on waffles in flavors that sound more like dessert menus than breakfast.

Thurston Co. bakery will close by year's end. The owner appeared on Food Network
Miss Moffett’s Mystical Cupcakes in Lacey is closing, the business announced Tuesday on social media. “After almost 14 wonderful years serving our community, we’ve made the heartbreaking decision to begin preparing for the closure of Miss Moffett’s Mystical Cupcakes,” the post said. “We don’t have an official closing date just yet, although we anticipate it will be sometime before the end of the year.” The owner and founder of the business is Rachel Young, who sprung to local fame after she appeared on a Food Network program with her mother called “Cupcake Wars” in 2013. They finished as the runner-ups in that contest. She later opened her first location near the Olympia Farmers Market and grew to have four locations at one point, but now has the one location in Lacey at 8765 Tallon Lane NE. Young also was appointed to the Lacey City Council in 2017 and served for two years. She said Tuesday that her business has seen a decline in sales over the last three years, largely because the cost of living is so much higher. Customers used to drive an hour to get her cupcakes, but as gasoline prices rose they stopped coming, she said. She

Thurston Co. dessert shop will close storefront. Celebrate the holidays downtown
The owners of the Nom Nom Stop , a five-year-old Lacey-based business known for its sweets, including cheesecake on a stick, have decided not to renew the lease on their College Street storefront. They plan to shift the business to food trucks. They will remain at 1107 College St. SE through the end of the year, and then go mobile, owners Tiberio Serbanescu and Ada Gheorghiu announced on social media and explained in an interview on Wednesday. One goal: to reduce their overhead costs, such as the cost of rent and utilities. “We realized that actually the food trucks bring in more revenue than the store,” said Gheorghiu on Wednesday. The business will have three trucks, Serbanescu said. Two of them will serve sweet and savory items, such as cheesecake on a stick, loaded hot dogs and Romanian-style skinless sausages. The last truck will serve espresso, coffee and specialty drinks, he said. Once they go mobile, where will customers be able to find them? One possible location is at the Lacey Depot at 5500 Pacific Ave. SE., a site that already features a collection of food trucks, Tiberio said. Other sites are still to be determined.
