Maroons overwhelm Westwood to snap four-game skid
MENOMINEE — It may not have been a traditional fish fry, but the Menominee softball team still filetted its competition on Friday. With its hit parade out in full force, Menominee snapped its four-game losing skid with a pair of emphatic non-conference victories over Westwood. The Maroons overwhelmed the Patriots 16-6 in game one before capping off the sweep with a dominant 13-1 outing in the nightcap. Menominee racked up 28 hits compared to 13 for Westwood, 16 of which came in the opening contest of Friday’s twinbill. Menominee and Westwood dueled to a 2-2 stalemate before the Maroons seized control of the proceedings with a nine-run outburst in the bottom of the third inning. Kadyn Olsen swiped home plate to put the Maroons in front for good before Ella Barker and Grace Averill socked RBI-singles to grow Menominee’s lead to six. Sadie Betzinger scored on a double by Arianna Johnson while Barker drove in a pair of runs with a groundball single into left field as Menominee entered the fourth inning ahead 11-2. Westwood responded with RBI-singles from Eliisa Doney and Emmi Hamel, while a double from Morgan Schneider trimmed the Maroons’ lead down to five, but the Patriots

Gladstone keeps Maroon girls under wraps in GNC twinbill
MENOMINEE — Great Northern Conference play began on a down note for the Menominee softball team as the Maroons dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Gladstone on Tuesday. Gladstone opened Tuesday’s twinbill with a 14-2 victory before sealing the sweep with a 16-1, four-inning decision in the nightcap. Lauren Pare and Addy Sanville kept Menominee off-balance with a pair of solid pitching performances while Gladstone’s bats cranked out a combined 30 hits compared to 10 for the Maroons. Emma Trombley, Malia Quigley and Addy Sanville collected RBIs as the Braves opened up a 7-0 lead before the Maroons got off the schneid in the bottom of the third after Sadie Betzinger scored on a single by Kylie Kellner. An RBI-double off the bat of Maddie Sundquist helped Gladstone seize a 10-run advantage until a passed ball allowed Betzinger to tally her second run scored of the game, as the Maroons made it an 11-2 game in the bottom of the fifth. Two more runs in Gladstone’s half of the sixth had Menominee staring down the 10-run mercy rule. Arianna Johnson hit a one-out single and moved up to third base after Savannah Houle doubled to left field, but the

Lakoksy Ties Single-Game Goals and Points Record in 21-4 Win over Davenport
MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The NMU lacrosse team got a 21-4 win over the Davenport Panthers thanks to a career performance from junior attacker Josie Lakosky. The junior captain tied the program mark for most goals (9) and points (13) in a single game, moving herself to 71 goals on the season, one away from tying Minnie Bittell's record for most goals in a single season, set in 2024. NMUs' 21 goals scored and 17-point differential are both the most against Davenport in program history. The 21 goals scored are the second most this season, behind the 23 scored against SVSU on 3/20/2026. This sets up for a great game on Sunday against Grand Valley, which will feature senior day to honor Emily Radke, Mya Snyder, and Laine Stanton, and a chance to take a run at a GLIAC regular-season championship, should the Wildcats defeat the Lakers. "If we can have the same intensity, make sure we don't have lulls, and we can keep moving the way we have been on offense, I think we'll have a good shot to have a competitive game." Along with the offensive outburst from Lakosky, an early draw control advantage aided the 'Cats offensive efforts,
