Play of the Week: Andrew Young shows off hops for Gladstone return TD
GLADSTONE, Mich. (WBUP/WJMN) - Our latest Peninsula Federal Credit Union and My UP Sports Play of the Week takes us to Gladstone for a junior varsity matchup between the Braves and the Houghton Gremlins. Heading into last week, the JV Braves were on a roll, sitting at 5-1 with three games left in their season. Looking to move to 6-1, Andrew Young lined up deep to receive the game's opening kickoff for Gladstone and hoping to make some magic happen. Young read his blocks perfectly and found a lane up the middle. With a would-be tackler pancaked in front of him, Young showed off the hops as he hurdled both the blocker and defender. He then displayed his agility as well, sticking the landing while staying perfectly in stride, then kicking into overdrive to outrace the remaining defenders to take a 6-0 lead. The opening play touchdown set the tone early, as Gladstone would go on to win 35-0 to improve to 6-1 on the season. The Braves will head on the road this week to face Calumet for their penultimate game of the year. Congratulations to Andrew for earning our latest play of the week. COPYRIGHT 2026 BY MY

Maroons still perfect after outlasting Negaunee
NEGAUNEE — Friday’s West-PAC Copper Conference contest against Negaunee was Menominee’s first true test of the season, and the Maroons proved up to the task. Jackson Myszak ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns, Kieffer Chouinard displayed his big-play capabilities and Menominee’s defense forced a pair of turnovers as the Maroons nudged their way past the Miners 38-28. Menominee ran its winning streak up to 21 games and counting despite being out-gained offensively 308-to-268 while being penalized seven times for 61 yards. “I thought that we had great effort throughout the night. To make that trip and beat a quality football team doesn’t always have to be pretty as long as you play hard and make more plays than the other team,” Menominee coach Chad Brandt said. As fans were still finding their seats, Chouinard electrified the stadium by scooping up the opening kickoff and sprinting it back for an untouched 75-yard house call to give Menominee a 6-0 edge only 11 seconds into the game. Negaunee (2-3 West-PAC Copper, 4-3 overall) responded with a six-play, 64-yard scoring drive that was aided by a facemask call on Menominee and capped off by a 34-yard touchdown strike over the middle from

No snow, no problem: 10 years of the UP200 Dryland Dash
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WBUP/WJMN) — No snow? No problem. The UP200’s 10th Dryland Dash brought nearly 80 racers and their canine teammates to Negaunee Township Park over the weekend, proving sled dog racing isn’t just a winter sport. Competitors from across the Midwest and beyond raced on foot, bikes, scooters, wheeled rigs, and cani-cross teams around a scenic two-mile course surrounded by U.P. fall colors. The event serves as the unofficial kickoff to the mushing season and gives spectators a chance to experience the excitement of dog-powered racing before the snow flies.“Dryland is a way to get out with your dogs when there’s no snow on the ground,” said Jana Roberts, Dryland Dash volunteer. “People are running with their dogs, doing bike, scooter and rig races with teams of up to six dogs.”For many competitors, the Dryland Dash is an accessible entry point into mushing without the commitment of a full sled dog team.“It’s really hard to go from ‘I want to do this’ to a 12-dog team,” Jana explained. “This is a great way for someone with a dog that loves to pull to come out and experience the joy, excitement and fun of racing.”One racer, Betsy Heidt from

For Chad Brandt, Friday’s game was a return to his hometown and alma mater. “I was happy to hit the road and come back with a nice victory, that’s the most important thing. I think we did a lot of good things and we also found some things that we still, as a team, need to keep working on in order to get better,” Brandt said. “We need to be more consistent with our blocking. Our linemen, our backs and our receivers have to block for the entire play. We’re leaving bigger plays
