Dangerous New Castle Metro-North crossing to get new $107M overpass

A dangerous Metro-North Railroad crossing along the Saw Mill River Parkway in New Castle will be replaced with a $107 million overpass. The Roaring Brook Road crossing is among 91 projects across 37 states that will split $1.24 billion in funding earmarked for rail crossing safety upgrades, the Federal Railroad Administration announced Friday, Oct. 30. It’s the largest of the grants, surpassing the $90 million California received to eliminate a crossing in Burlingame. The New York State Department of Transportation will pick up 20% of the cost to design and build the overpass. The Harlem Line crossing has been the scene of dozens of accidents. Some 9,000 vehicles and over 100 passenger trains pass through every day.
