'No place like home' Smiles and Frowns Playhouse returns to 'Oz' and stages reunion for 40th anniversary
It’s hard to believe that two decades have passed since Brea Glosson starred as Dorothy in Smiles and Frowns Playhouse’s 20th anniversary production of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Since that time, she has appeared on the college stage, moved to New York to pursue a theatrical career, and written and performed in a one-woman show. Here, the city’s soul is stitched together by the legacy of Black Wall Street, the rhythm of jazz and gospel, and the promise of new beginnings. It’s a place where barbecue smoke drifts through neighborhoods, where the scent of biscuits and collards mingles with the spice of new arrivals, and where every meal is a gathering — a celebration of memory and hope, of resilience and reinvention.
