Findlay resident Kiesel to run 100th and final marathon in Toledo
Deanna Kiesel will never forget the feeling she had when she completed her first marathon 36 years ago in Columbus. “I came across the finish line and I said ‘never again,’” Kiesel said with a laugh. “I am never doing that again.” Turns out that feeling and mentality didn’t last very long. In fact, the Findlay resident has dedicated her life to running, and she will add another memorable moment to her remarkable journey on Sunday. Kiesel will be running in her 100th and final marathon when she tours Toledo in the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon. It will be the 1,230th race that the 60-year-old Tiffin native has taken part in — “That includes 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, marathons, triathlons, ultra marathons. I have kept track from day one,” she said — and she is looking forward to spending it with friends before, during, and after the event.
Pair of Monmouth recruits commit to UT women's basketball
Ginny Boggess has her first commitments as the University of Toledo women's basketball coach. Faith Fedd-Robinson and Evalyse Cole, each of whom signed with Monmouth last fall, have pledged their allegiance to the Rockets. Fedd-Robinson, a 5-foot-11 wing from New Jersey, had more than 1,400 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 400 blocks at Newark Central. She was a three-time all-conference selection and led the state in blocked shots. "You're going to love watching this New Jersey native compete," Boggess said when Fedd-Robinson signed with Monmouth. "Faith is a do-it-all three-level scorer who brings a lot of energy to both sides of the ball. An elite finisher at the rim with patent vision and playmaking skills, she will incite a lot of 'wow' moments from the crowd. Her size and physicality allow her to defend multiple positions and rebound at an elite level to initiate our break."
To the editor: TPS’ Ellis remembered for kindness
Many years ago, my baby sister was a new graduate, with an education degree from the University of Toledo. She wanted to work for the local school district of Toledo Public Schools. Not knowing where exactly to apply and very nervous as well, she waited for the elevator to arrive. It came down, the door opened. She must have looked lost enough for, what she told me she remembered, this nice, tall, Black man asked her if she needed help. She told him her situation, and this gentleman turned around and went back up in the elevator with her and showed her where to apply. She got the job. She later found out that this kind man was none other than the Honorable Dr. Crystal Ellis. Rest in peace, Sir. DREW SELMEK Sylvania
