Second murder defendant in boys' deaths enters sealed plea
One of four adults alleged to be in the supporting cast for the late 2022 disappearances and deaths of two teenage boys pleaded guilty to undisclosed charges Wednesday morning in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. As was the case with the previous plea in January of co-defendant Cruz Garcia, Corbin Gingrich, 27, of the 500 block of Maumee Avenue made a plea under seal April 25 before Judge Lori Olender. And he entered it on the eve of jury selection for the trial of two other men charged with aggravated murder for the December 2022 kidnappings and deaths of Kyshawn Pittman, 15, and Ke’Marion Wilder, 16. Like three others in the case, Gingrich was indicted last year for two counts apiece of murder and kidnapping, under the apparent theory that he participated in the Dec. 3, 2022 kidnappings that resulted in the boys’ deaths but was not directly involved in killing them.

Attorneys frustrated with discovery efforts in $72M fraud case
The court case for those charged in a Ponzi scheme that allegedly bilked at least 200 people out of $72 million and resulted in eight people charged in a 204-count indictment one year ago continued its laborious pace through Lucas County Common Pleas court on Tuesday. Testimony centered around ongoing issues the defense has raised about the searchability of more than 4.3 million pages of discovery provided by the state. Judge Gary Cook heard from four witnesses, three for the defense and one for the state, about issues surrounding Relativity, the program used to manage the documents. Patty Loo, a senior paralegal at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, testified as an expert witness about Relativity. She has been involved in this particular case for about a year.

Lawsuit seeks to curb pollution in Lake Erie
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Local officials are filing a lawsuit against a federal agency in an effort to protect Lake Erie water. According to a news release from the Lucas County Commissioners, a joint lawsuit will be filed in an attempt to compel the Environmental Protection Agency to comply with its obligations under the Clean Water Act and prevent harmful algal blooms, or HAB, in western Lake Erie. The lawsuit will be filed in conjunction with the Environmental Law and Policy Center.
