Illegal guns uncovered after LI man pulls shotgun on family during dispute

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two people were arrested after police found several firearms in a Long Island home when responding to a dispute over the weekend.

Nassau County police  responded to a call for a disturbance at a residence on Saturday at around 7:30 p.m. in Old Bethpage.

Police were notified of an argument that happened between Patrick J. Jackson, 54, and Dorothy Scotto, 42, and her family members.

The argument escalated and Jackson picked up a loaded shotgun, according to police. Scotto and her family members left the house and called 911 as they "feared for their lives," police said. It was not immediately clear what the dispute was about.

Police arrived and arrested Jackson without incident and the shotgun was recovered.

Police did not clarify who the residence belonged to.

Following an investigation, six illegal firearms, two switchblade knives and multiple high-capacity magazines were recovered from inside the home, police said.

Scotto was also placed under arrest without incident, police said.

Jackson is charged with criminal possession of a weapon second degree, criminal possession of a weapon third degree, criminal possession of a weapon fourth degree, menacing second degree, endangering the welfare of a child and failure to safely store firearms first degree.

Police did not clarify whether the two were related.
