Meet the bakers behind Eugene's new porch bakery, Sunday Supper Co.
Sunday mornings are a bit chaotic at Ashley Gray's house. Aside from getting her family roused and ready to go for the day, Gray is finishing packing up her baked goods in her car. As 9 a.m. ticks closer and closer, she realizes she might be her signature 5 minutes late to opening the porch bakery she runs with her friend Shelbie Litty. As Gray loads the last of her highly anticipated Cozy Crumb cinnamon rolls into her car for the drive over, she stifles a yawn. She's been baking since 2 a.m. "If people are getting here at 9 a.m. for my baked goods, I'm gonna give them ones that are freshly made," Gray said. "I'm still shocked at the number of people that come, like I'm just some granddaughter that learned to bake, and now everyone wants some." Gray and Litty have been running their porch bakery together since September. Gray's business, The Cozy Crumb, supplies sweet goodies for the project while Sunday Supper Co. works more in the savory sphere, though there is a lot of overlap between them. On a given day, customers can expect to find anything from organic dog treats to frosted sugar cookies

The unfurling of reality: Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble’s annual New Music Festival
Over the first weekend in October, the Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble (EDME) hosted their fourth New Music Festival. With five concerts over three days, the experimental and contemporary music ensemble and their artistic allies performed a wide array of pieces by living composers and gave audiences a run-down of what’s happening in experimental music. Not all may have lived up to the group’s namesake, but there was plenty for even the hardiest avant-gardist to enjoy.

From beans to bus, The Crown Cafe keeps Eugene rolling along
Despite the futuristic look of his coffee roaster, John Danza claims the mechanisms of the machine are actually quite simple. He's been working the roaster since 6 a.m., turning batches of matte green beans into the dark, shiny ones he uses in his coffee bus, The Crown Cafe . A screen on the front of his machine shows the temperature in the drum steadily rising, and Danza makes a note of the first crack of the beans. He's working on a dark roast, which takes a bit longer than a light roast. After the second crack of the beans, about 11 minutes into the roasting process, a toasty, caramel-like smell wafts out of the drum, and he starts the cooling process. Roasting is the second stop of three in Danza's day. This morning, he woke up at 3:30 a.m. to start baking and has a fresh batch of almond and hazelnut croissants ready for The Crown. Soon, Danza will head to Willamette Street and start serving customers until the bus closes at 3 p.m. 'I'll dump a bad cup of coffee' Danza started roasting coffee beans nine years ago. "When I was living in the Bay Area, I was doing
