New Japanese comfort joint brings sushi tacos, avocado bombs to Eugene
I love sushi, particularly nigiri — slices of fresh seafood pressed into a mound of seasoned rice with a sinus-clearing dab of wasabi. Kasumi House does serve nigiri, as well as sashimi, and maki, and regular and signature rolls. But the Japanese comfort food eatery, which opened in Eugene earlier this year, is also cranking out sushi tacos.

Wine bar to close, plus second locations for local favorites in Eugene
Openings and closures continue to sweep through Eugene as we move into February. Two Lane County favorites, Mandy's Family Restaurant and The Washburne Café , are opening second locations in Eugene and Springfield. This means more pie, milkshakes, pancakes and coffee for everyone. In other news, Boris Weidenfeld-Needham is moving to close the Whiteaker location of Bo's Wine Depot and his wine and jazz bar, Nero . But Nero fans know though this is the end of a chapter, it isn't the end of Wiedenfeld-Needham's story. He hopes to open Nero 2.0 in the future. Nero in the Whiteaker to close Boris Wiedenfeld-Needham can't work 70 hours a week anymore. He's been open about his fight with cancer and has come to the conclusion he can't run his store anymore because he can't lift a case of wine on his own. That's why he's moving to close the Whiteaker location of Bo's, but with his wine and jazz bar Nero, it's a whole different story. "The bar I can handle by myself," he said. "I have a very big abdominal surgery coming up in the spring, and the last time I had one like that it took me nine months

A Winter Warmup: The E. E. Wilson Wildlife Area
We find some interesting places during our winter explorations. This one is an expansive wildlife area that also allows hunting, and even offers shotgun and archery ranges.
