A section of Broad Street in Waverly will close for two days next week while scheduled demolition work is completed. The closure is planned for Monday, Nov. 9, and Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. The affected stretch runs between Spaulding Street and Twin Tiers Auto Wash at 547 Broad Street.

A Surface Transportation Board notice published November 6 says Wilkes-Barre Terminal Railway Company, a noncarrier, has filed to acquire about 59.65 miles of rail line in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and to replace R.J. Corman Railroad Company/Luzerne & Susquehanna Line as the common-carrier operator on part of that line. The notice was decided November 3. The earliest the transaction may be consummated is November 22. It has not closed.

PennDOT secretary visits Lewisburg roundabout site near U.S. 15

Lewisburg, Pa. — PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll visited the intersection of Hospital Drive and JPM Road in Kelly Township, Union County, where a roundabout is planned through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. Carroll met with local and elected officials at the site and discussed the planned work, which includes building a roundabout, widening and realigning the approach roads, adding signs and other improvements meant to improve traffic flow and safety, according to PennDOT. The $1.2 million project is aimed at improving access to medical facilities, stores and restaurants along U.S. 15, PennDOT said. Construction is expected in 2027. Joining Carroll were Kelly Township Supervisor David Hassenplug, Sen. Gene Yaw, and PennDOT Assistant District Executive Gerald Wertz. More on the program can be viewed here .

SEPTA Delaware trains restored after Amtrak hits person in Pennsylvania

SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail line is restored after an Amtrak train struck a person in Pennsylvania earlier in the afternoon. A SEPTA spokesperson said an Amtrak train struck a person around Glenolden, Pennsylvania, in Delaware County around 1:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Since then, SEPTA service on the Wilmington/Newark Line was suspended while Amtrak investigated the incident, but service is restored. Amtrak trains are operating on a heavy delay, according to their schedules between Wilmington and Philadelphia as of 3 p.m. The only direct alternate route to Delaware that is not a train to or from Philadelphia is the 113 bus from Claymont Transit Center. I-80 eastbound on-ramp at Bellefonte to stay closed into late November

Bellefonte, Pa. — The Interstate 80 eastbound on-ramp at Exit 161 in Bellefonte, closed since Oct. 12, will stay closed until the third week of November, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said. PennDOT had expected the contractor on the I-80/I-99 High-Speed Interchange project to reopen the ramp by the end of October, but the reopening was delayed because of unforeseen circumstances, according to the department. While the ramp remains closed, traffic on Interstate 99 heading to I-80 eastbound will take Jacksonville Road to the westbound on-ramp at Exit 161 and follow the detour back to I-80 eastbound at Milesburg. The closure was put in place to prepare for directing traffic onto the newly completed bridge over Jacksonville Road, PennDOT said. The High-Speed Interchange will provide a direct connection between the two interstates, so drivers will no longer have to travel along Route 26 to reach them. Work includes building the interchange, 10 bridges, four retaining walls, five box culverts, seven sign structures and three changeable message boards, along with new and rebuilt roadways and ramps, drainage, lighting and stream improvements. Soil cleanup to slow I-180 east traffic in Williamsport on Nov. 3

Williamsport, Pa. — An environmental contractor will clean up soil along Interstate 180 east of Williamsport on Tuesday, Nov. 3, PennDOT said. Crews will be cleaning the eastbound right (driving) lane and shoulder of I-180 at the ramp from Jefferson Lane, east of the Route 15/Market Street Bridge. Traffic using the on-ramp will also be compressed. Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers can expect moderate delays and should watch for slow-moving traffic and construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway, PennDOT said. (The Center Square) – Gov. Josh Shapiro and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity agree: gasoline prices are too high in Pennsylvania. However, they cite different factors contributing to current prices and offer different solutions. “Let's be very clear: gas is at almost $4.50 a gallon because of a war in Iran that we had no business getting into, Trump's got no earthly idea how to get out of, and my opponent has supported it every step of the way,” Shapiro said in response to a question from The Center Square on Sunday. “Notwithstanding that it's left 21 American families with an empty seat at the dinner table, notwithstanding the fact that, the average Pennsylvania family is paying about 1,000 bucks more just in energy costs because of this war.” In continuing his case, Shapiro said the Trump administration has to end the war in Iran, which would open the Strait of Hormuz. “That will bring down gas prices,” he said.
