Galesburg seeks public input on East Main Street improvement plan
The City of Galesburg is seeking public feedback on proposed improvements to East Main Street between Grand Avenue and Interstate 74 during a community meeting set for Oct. 27 at the Galesburg Public Library. The meeting will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 264 W. Main St., according to a community announcement. Residents will have an opportunity to review renderings, ask questions and provide input on the preliminary design plans for the corridor. The proposal calls for reducing East Main Street to one travel lane in each direction with a center turn lane. City officials said a traffic study found a three-lane configuration can accommodate existing traffic volumes as well as projected future growth. Planned improvements also include updated sidewalks along the north side of the street and a shared-use path along the south side. The project would add ADA-compliant curb ramps and buffer space between pedestrians and traffic. Proposed upgrades include drainage and signal improvements In addition to roadway changes, the concept includes upgrades to aging infrastructure. The city is considering storm sewer improvements designed to improve drainage during heavy rainfall. Proposed work also includes traffic signal upgrades and asphalt pavement resurfacing. Infrastructure Repairs on the Horizon in Tampico
Potential costly repairs to the village’s water and sewer systems were discussed at the Tampico Village Council meeting on Tuesday, October 20th. Public Works Superintendent Tyler Chriest reported receiving an insurance check for the storage shed at the sewage lagoon, which lost part of the roof in a severe storm in March. He noted that the shed is not in good condition because it gets hit by an irrigator in the summer, drifting snow in the winter, and the soft ground sometimes makes accessibility difficult. “It’s nice to have storage out there but the building is not in good shape,” he said, adding that they store barricades, sidewalk forms, attachments for the small tractor, and snowplows there during the summer months.
