The attorney for Jose M. Valentin requested a continuance of the case during the first pretrial hearing in Henry County Circuit Court Thursday. Filling in for Valentin’s attorney, Jonathan Ruud, was attorney Steve Hanna. Hanna requested the continuance, telling the Court that the defense was still waiting on discovery. Henry County State’s Attorney Catherine Runty did not object, telling Judge Terry Patton that the state was still waiting on reports to come back.

Two valedictorians among 28 to graduate May 19 from Galva High School
Kyrsten Elizabeth Hill and Mia Rae Merkel are the top Class of 2024 graduates for Galva High School. Hill, the daughter of Judi and Patrick Hill, has a grade point average of 4.0. She has been active in dance, track, choir, and Interact Club all four years of high school. She was selected as an Illinois State Scholar and received the President’s Education Award and the Galva P.E.O. Scholarship. Hill plans to attend Black Hawk College, East Campus, in the fall with plans to pursue a degree in elementary education.
