Bluegrass is the word for Sunday’s Levitt AMP concert
Bluegrass will be the order of the day Sunday, July 28, at the Levitt AMP concert in Galva’s Wiley Park. Performers are EmiSunshine and the David Mayfield Parade. Rolling Stone named EmiSunshine among “10 new country artists you need to know,” but she is much more than country. With a musical style described as “old-timey,” the East Tennessee native performs her own unique contemporary blend of roots music that is equal parts Americana, bluegrass, gospel, blues and jazz.
Registration Open for The 48th Annual Hog Days Stampede on August 31, 2024
Registration is open for the 48th Annual Hog Days Stampede. You can choose the four-mile run, the one-mile run, or the kid’s run. There are awards for the first three male and female kids in each age group. The age groups are 8 and under; 9–10; 11–12; and 13–14. The kid’s race starts at 9:30 AM and there is no entry fee, but a guardian must fill out and sign the entry form, for kids 7 and under. A Free T-shirt is provided by The Kewanee Banking Center for the first 300 entries received. There is no guarantee of the correct size for entries received after Saturday, August 17th.

Parks director addresses district’s cleanup priorities
Last week’s tornadoes caused massive damage in three of the Kewanee Park District’s parks, and the recovery effort might not be finished until the end of next month. The park board met Wednesday; the meeting had been postponed from the scheduled date of last Thursday in the wake of the July 15 tornadoes which devastated Windmont, Baker and Chautauqua parks.

For those of us out of town and out of state, it was the only way we could get coverage of what was going on since there was so much power outage from the damage. Report Shows 110% Rise in Illinois Domestic Violence Deaths as Advocates Call for Action
Advocacy groups are sounding the alarm on a spike in domestic violence cases. A new report from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence says domestic violence deaths in Illinois rose by 110% last year, with 94 incidents of domestic violence leading to 120 deaths in 2023. That includes 107 homicides and 13 suicides in which the perpetrators took their own lives. That’s up from the previous year, when there were 45 incidents that led to 57 deaths.
