West Mineral Schools All School Reunion
The Mineral High School Alumni Reunion Committee announces a special one day “All School Reunion” September 7th, 2024. This reunion will be held at the “Gay Parita,” which is two miles west of the Scammon Express Lane. The Gay Parita closed in the 1960’s and it was recently renovated to its original form by John Parsons. We figured you would appreciate having the reunion there and perhaps bring back some early memories. We have reserved the Gay Parita for this one day event from 3:00 to 9:00 pm. 63 years after Mineral High School closed in 1961, we are still getting a good number of alumni. In 2023, we had 37 graduates with another 11 that attended Mineral High School but graduated from another school after Mineral High School closed. Your love and loyalty to the school is to be commended. If you can make it, please come and celebrate our great alumni. We need an accurate reservation number to turn into the Gay Parita staff who will prepare for that number with seating arrangements and food. The cost will be 25 dollars per person and and must be received with your reservation form by August 24, 2024. Our committee, which is completely voluntary, consists of Bobby, Karen Thomas, Larry (class of 62) and Linda Coltrane (class of 63), Kenny and Marilyn White, Jim (class of 60) and Patty Hodgson, Beverly Rauniker (class of 67), Dixie Perry (class of 65) and Dayna Ray. We are looking forward to visiting with our friends and alumni.
Annawan and Wethersfield Students Attend the College for Kids Program at Black Hawk College
Black Hawk College recently hosted its 44th annual College for Kids program, welcoming gifted students from grades 6–9 at the Quad-Cities Campus in Moline from July 15th–19th. Notable among the participants were Iyla Anderson and Anna Nordstrom from Annawan, as well as Jalie Nichols and Jorrie Miskinis from Wethersfield. These students joined their peers in a diverse curriculum, choosing from 30 available classes spanning arts, languages, sciences, and more. A highlight was the popular “What Career Is Right for Me?” class, aimed at guiding young talents toward potential future careers based on their interests and abilities.
