The “Care for Sylvan Island: Community Cleanup & Nature-Based Solutions Event,” organized in collaboration with Fem Scouts QC, will take place from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Sylvan Island, Moline.

Community members of all ages are welcome.

The Clean River Advisory Council (C-RAC) invites Quad Cities residents to help shape healthier river communities through two opportunities: A community cleanup and nature-based solutions event at Sylvan Island and a short survey about residents’ connections to the Mississippi River and priorities for their neighborhoods.

Volunteers will plant native trees and flowers, remove invasive species, and participate in a community cleanup. Participants can also learn about native plants, pollinators, and nature-based solutions—approaches that work with natural systems to support cleaner water, manage rainwater, and create healthier outdoor spaces.

Volunteers should meet at the Sylvan Island parking lot, 111 1st Ave., Moline. Cleanup bags, tongs, gloves, and safety vests will be provided. Attendees should wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves and bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray. Children 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Community survey seeks resident input

Residents can also participate in C-RAC’s 2026 Community Survey, whether or not they attend the event. The six- to seven-minute survey asks about connections to the Mississippi River, local concerns, and projects that could benefit neighborhoods and cities. Responses will inform community priorities and planning.

Participation is voluntary. Names and email addresses are not required to complete the survey. Respondents may separately choose to enter a drawing for a $25 Walmart gift card. The survey is available here.
