School board weighs options for attendance boundary changes
After a summer of controversy, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board will take on a task that's difficult for any school board: deciding where students go to school. CMS plans to reopen Elbert Edwin Waddell High School as a comprehensive high school and open a new middle school on Stumptown Road — which will affect other schools’ attendance boundaries.

Unpaid rent dispute between Charlotte stars Cam Newton and Lamelo Ball is over
An unpaid rent dispute between Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton’s company, Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball and Ball’s manager has reached an end, according to court documents. A lawsuit alleging Ball and his manager owed the former Panthers quarterback’s company more than $270,000 for 11 months of unpaid rent and other HOA fees was appealed to federal court in September and dismissed altogether last week. What exactly led to the joint dismissal, however, remains unknown. Attorneys on both sides did not respond to emails and calls from The Charlotte Observer. The at-times muddy saga has seen an eviction , contradictory claims and both local and federal courts over the last seven months. It all stems from a 2020 lease for Newton’s old Charlotte condos, which sit above an uptown Brazilian steakhouse and between the Spectrum Center and Bank of America stadium. In 2020, Newton had moved away from the city after helping the Panthers get to the 2016 Super Bowl . Ball was just beginning his five-year stint as the Hornets point guard, during which he would become the highest-paid athlete in Charlotte.
