Division III and IV softball: Oak Harbor to face former league foe in regional semifinal
Three Toledo-area high school softball teams will be chasing regionals in Division III and Division IV this week. In Division III, sixth-ranked NBC champion Oak Harbor (24-2, 11-1) looks to earn its second trip to the state final four in three years after reaching the D-II semifinals in 2022. The Rockets of second-year coach Cami Haas face former longtime Sandusky Bay Conference foe Margaretta (19-10) in Wednesday's 5 p.m. semifinal at Findlay High School. Two area teams have qualified for regionals in Division IV, with Buckeye Border Conference runner-up Montpelier (17-7, 7-1) facing Monroeville in the 5 p.m. semifinal at Rossford, and SBC River Division member Fremont St. Joseph (12-13) facing eighth-ranked Vienna Mathews in a 2 p.m. semifinal at Berea.

Track and field roundup: Oak Harbor boys claim victory at Division II district meet
OAK HARBOR, Ohio — Oak Harbor defended its home track on Saturday, winning the Division II boys track and field district competition. The Rockets scored 131 points, topping second-place Eastwood’s 107. Central Catholic (66) was third, followed by Clyde (60) and Lake (47). Sandusky Perkins won the girls meet with 111 points, Oak Harbor was second at 85, followed by Port Clinton (79), Lake (71.5), and Clyde (62). Oak Harbor’s Tyler Thompson claimed a sprint double in the boys meet, with the junior claiming the 100-meter dash in 10.90 seconds and the 200 in 21.98. Sophomore Wyatt Augsburger had a hurdles double, winning the 110 hurdles in 14.88 and the 300 hurdles in 40.14.
Get Ready to Ride: The Old Fort Days Rodeo begins Memorial Day, May 27th
Saddle up for the 91st annual Old Fort Days Rodeo, Memorial Day, May 27th through June 1st at Kay Rodgers Park in Fort Smith. Contestants from all over the world will compete for one of largest prize purses in Arkansas. Attendees will see some the rankest bulls and broncs in America. Rodeo events include saddle bronc riding, bull riding, bareback riding, calf roping, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, kid’s wild pony races and crowd favorite mutton bustin. This year marks the 91st year of operation for the rodeo organization. The rodeo festivities kick off with the Old Fort Days Rodeo parade at 10:00am on Monday, May 27th along Garrison Avenue in downtown Fort Smith. This year’s parade will feature the Express Clydesdales from Yukon, Oklahoma. These majestic animals will be marching in the parade and be on display at the rodeo that evening. On Tuesday, May 28th they are the featured attraction at the rodeo grand entry.

Toledo-area entrants come away with three district titles in boys tennis
PORT CLINTON — Boys tennis district tournament play concluded Saturday with a host of locals qualifying for state competition, including two singles players and one doubles team capturing their respective district titles. The Division I and Division II tournaments both took place at Port Clinton. The two finalists in Division I earned state tournament places for both singles and doubles, while the four semifinalists all advanced at the Division II level. Nick Miller of St. Francis de Sales was the D-I singles champion, defeating Gabe Burke of Lima Shawnee 6-3, 6-3 in the district final. Miller had defeated Miles Green of St. John’s Jesuit in the semifinals to lock up his state bid. Northview’s Max Forquer saw his run come to an end with a semifinal loss to Burke.
Raiders lead county at district track
DEFIANCE – Wayne Trace posted a third-place finish on the boys side and took fifth place on the girls side to lead local squads in district track action last week. Van Buren won the boys meet with 122 points with the Raiders taking third at 90 points and Antwerp finished with 49 points to place sixth. Paulding took seventh as the Panthers racked up 39 points.
