The Richland County commissioners are taking part in an effort to “preserve and protect the county’s up-standing quality of life and the strength and integrity of the community” by voting Tuesday to approve a resolution declaring April as “National Cannabis Awareness Month.” The resolution was submitted by Benjamin Mutti, a Lexington resident who has been campaigning against the legalization and use of marijuana and promoting awareness of drug-related issues for a number of years.

Galion man sentenced following plea change on drug charges
A Galion man is heading to prison after pleading guilty to a drug-related charge during a change of plea hearing in Crawford County Common Pleas Court. Steven Conner, 30, pleaded guilty April 18 to one count of possession of drugs, a first-degree felon, and was sentenced to a minimum of eight years and a maximum of 12 years in prison. Two other drug-related charges − tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

During inspection, serving station was observed unattended (staff getting chicken patties out of oven and other staff washing hands) as counter full of trays with lunches set out on countertop subject to sneeze, splash, dirt and dust while students wait in line. Sneeze guard should be installed or procedure should be changed by not putting out lunches all at once or having employee staff monitor lunches as they sit on the counter. Correct by May 14. Concerns raised about county's permitting process for overweight and oversize vehicles
The Richland County commissioners have asked county Engineer Adam Gove to review the county’s permitting regulations for overweight and oversize vehicles traveling on county roads to see if they can be streamlined. The request followed a discussion with Mark Paule of Integrity Permits LLC of Castalia who told commissioners Tuesday the process needs to be easier for companies that need more than one permit for a project.
