Most of the focus on Kentucky basketball has remained on the transfer portal over the past month. However, UK has a new player in its sights in the 2025 recruiting class.

Kaden Magwood , a 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard from Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) told KSR+ that he received a call from Kentucky assistant coach Jason Hart on Monday. Magwood said he plans to visit Kentucky “sometime in the next month.”

“I’ve been a Kentucky fan since I was a little kid,” Magwood said. “The only coach I’ve ever known has been Coach John Calipari , so I’m kind of bummed about that a little bit. Kentucky is still Kentucky to me .”

Magwood is a Louisville native who previously attended Western High School. He will return home this weekend after school ends and then find a date for a visit.

“I want to see if the coaching staff rocks with me and how they’re going to play me,” Magwood said. “I want to see everything and the vibe of the place. I’ve never been to Rupp [Arena] before.”

    His Recruitment is ‘Heating Up’

Kaden Magwood’s play on the Adidas Circuit with Team Loaded has resulted in a lot more eyes on him. He recently added offers from Ole Miss and Louisville .

“It’s really heating up because of what I’m doing this AAU season,” Magwood said.

In addition to Kentucky, Magwood said he’s starting to receive interest from Duke, Kansas, LSU, and Providence, among others. He’s yet to take any official visits yet. Magwood has previously taken unofficial visits to Illinois, Appalachian State, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Xavier, and Cincinnati. He said he doesn’t have a timetable for a commitment.

“I feel like I’m just getting to the party now,” he said. “I might have a few months for me until I commit to a school.”

Magwood has no upcoming visits planned. He is talking to several college coaches about setting up trips, but “nothing is set in stone.”

“[I want to go to a place that’s] family-oriented and rocks with me,” Magwood said. “I want to see their system of play. Also, the whole vibe of the place and the coaching staff.”

    Kaden Magwood’s Game

Four-star shooting guard Kaden Magwood of Oak Hill (VA) Academy is the nation’s No. 97 overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks Magwood as the No. 107 player overall, the No. 27 shooting guard, and the No. 4 best player in Virginia.

“Everybody knows that I can score that ball,” Magwood said. “I’m not gonna lie. I’m a great scorer.”

Magwood said an underrated trait of his game is his passing ability. It’s something he said he doesn’t get enough credit for.

“If you watch my game, I can really pass,” he said. “I can also lead. I’ve been working on my leadership this past year and AAU season. I’m a great leader on and off the court. I can play defense and I can also rebound.”

Moving forward, Magwood wants to become a more consistent defender. He doesn’t want to take any plays off.

“I want to play defense more and lock up the best player on the team because I can,” he said. “I’ve shown that when I really want to lock up, I can really lock up.”

There isn’t a specific style of play that best fits Magwood’s game. He’s versatile.

“I’m just that good of a player and I can adapt to any style of play,” Magwood said.
