LSU is taking aim at adding to its 2024 roster with final scholarship spots available. Sources told The Bengal Tiger that Louisville transfer defensive back Wesley Walker wrapped up a visit to LSU Thursday evening.

The Tigers are in the thick of the battle, trying to beat out Michigan for the transfer. LSU has an opportunity for Walker to come in and make an impact at the safety position, needing a veteran presence.

Michigan is in need of safety help as well, but the Tigers could certainly use a jump in talent on their defense that rebuilds under Blake Baker. Walker would have a chance to start, allowing LSU’s younger safeties time to develop. He visited Michigan last weekend.

Walker spent the spring semester at Louisville after previously playing at Tennessee. He began his career at Georgia Tech and is searching for his fourth college. He committed to Ole Miss in January before flipping to Louisville. Walker ranked fourth on Tennessee with 53 total tackles, starting the first 10 games before missing the final two with an injury.

Walker spent the previous two seasons at Tennessee. Appearing in 23 games for the Vols and making 12 starts where he recorded 89 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one interceptions in his two seasons in Knoxville.

Walker started off his college career at Georgia Tech before returning to him home state ahead of the 2022 season. Redshirting in his first college season after appearing in three games before making 20 game appearances and 13 starts in his following two years in Atlanta. Ending his Georgia Tech career with 95 tackles, six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

On the flip side of transfer portal news, sources say it’s tough to see former Louisville defensive end Tyler Baron taking a risk to fight his way out of his SEC paperwork he inked with Ole Miss. LSU would love to have him, but unless there’s a change there, we don’t see him taking on that battle. The former four-star recruit has posted 101 career tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks and four pass breakups.

LSU landed Grand Valley State defensive lineman Jay’Viar Suggs earlier this week, adding a boost to its defensive line. A 6-foot-3, 282-pounder, Suggs logged 21 stops, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 5 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble in 2022. In 2023, Suggs totaled 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 5 sacks to go along with 4 pass breakups and a forced fumble. He had at least one half-tackle for loss in eight of 11 appearances. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
