Wilmington family opening new Thai restaurant in Hampstead
The family behind a handful of restaurants in Wilmington is opening a new Asian eatery in Hampstead. “It’s going to be Thai Zen,” said Mone Somsnith, who owns and operates Tokyo 101, Umaii Thai and Pho Vanhly Noodle House in Wilmington with her family and partners. She said the restaurants have many regular customers who come from Pender County. This new eatery will be more convenient for them. Somsnith said it’s been in the works for almost four years, but she hopes it will be able to open later this year. It's located in the Hampstead Station shopping center near the Food Lion grocery store at 14564 U.S. 17. Each of the restaurants have a slightly different menu and focus, she said. The family started with Tokyo 101 in the Mayfaire shopping center about 15 years ago, serving sushi and hibachi meals. You can also find noodle dishes and Japanese entrees. One of Somsnith’s favorites is the stuffed jalapenos, their signature appetizer stuffed with crab and served with special sauces.
