Wilmington Deputy City Manager charged with DWI
WILMINGTON – Wilmington Deputy City Manager Mary Vigue was charged with DWI following a traffic stop June 1. According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, a checkpoint was being conducted with Wilmington Police along East Lake Shore Drive as part of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Program. Wilmington Fire Department hiring for recruit academy
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Fire Department is accepting applications for its 2024 Recruit Academy from now until July 9. “Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and demonstrate a strong work ethic, responsibility, determination, and teamwork. Firefighting experience and/or specialized fire education are not required to apply. Successful applicants will learn all the knowledge necessary during the six-month Recruit Academy, during which the recruits are paid. Upon completion of the academy, recruits are transferred to shift and work 24-hours on a rotating schedule,” states an announcement from the WFD.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The first weekend of June is here, and your First Alert Forecast carries clouds breaking for periods of sun. Expect high temperatures mainly in the deeper 80s Saturday and upper 70s Sunday. Chances for a passing shower or storm should afford generous amounts of dry time: 10% Saturday and near 0% Sunday. In the lower 70s surf, the risk of rip currents ought to keep a low to moderate profile, generally; a puff of enhanced northeast breezes may locally enhance this risk by Sunday.
