Isolated showers and thunderstorms Wednesday

Partly sunny skies are expected Wednesday with highs in the mid 80s. Isolated showers and a few thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. The Storm Prediction Center put the region under a marginal risk for stronger storms that could contain gusty winds and small hail along with heavy rainfall. The partial solar eclipse will occur Wednesday afternoon, beginning at 1:02pm and ending at 2:30pm. The maximum eclipse when 17% of the sun will be blocked out will occur at 1:47 pm. The best chance for showers and storms will be this evening and into the nighttime as a weak system passes through. Lows will fall back to the lower 60s. Patchy fog will be possible after midnight.

The National Weather Service office in Upton, N.Y., warns that atmospheric conditions Tuesday afternoon could bring the potential for thunderstorms mainly affecting western parts of the New York City area.

A few showers will pass through this morning giving way to a break in the cloud cover and drier conditions for the midday. Temperatures will rise into the mid 80s Monday with muggy conditions.
