Sibley East operating levy rejected by voters

ARLINGTON, Minn. (KEYC) - Sibley East Public Schools’ operating levy was rejected by voters on Tuesday, Nov. 3 with 2,176 voting against and 1,397 in favor. School officials were seeking an additional $850 dollars per student for the next 10 years to keep the district from making further cuts, after making $250,000 in cuts last spring.

City Administrator Joe Roby announces retirement

After four years serving as Le Sueur’s city administrator, Joe Roby has submitted his resignation from the position. “It is with mixed emotions that I want to share with you that I have submitted to Stacy my notice of resignation as City Administrator,” Roby wrote in the resignation letter provded to Le Sueur County News. “My last day with the city will be Dec. 16. I would like to thank the council for the opportunity to serve as your city administrator for the past 4.5 years; it has been a great privilege. I love this community with a passion, and it has been a tremendous honor to work on behalf of the community in this capacity.” With Roby’s resignation, effective Dec. 17, a proposal has been put forward for the City Council a transtion plan. The proposal, to be considered at the city’s Nov. 9 meeting, ask the city to consider seeking assistance through a professional recruiter or elect to utilize the city’s existing hiring process to fill the vacancy.

The first was a 10 year tax levy, which would have raised an additional $400,000 in its first year to help support $4 million worth of upcoming school purchases including new technology, new school buses and other projects.

Titans take down the Cardinals to reach Section 3AAA Championship

Two weeks ago, the Tri-City United football team trailed Fairmont with just over a minute and a half left in regulation and performed a perfect two-minute drill to go ahead late and earn a 26-25 victory. Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, the Titans once again had the football with just under two minutes to go in regulation, tied 13-13 with the Cardinals with a trip to the Section 3AAA Championship game on the line. Once again, TCU performed perfectly down the stretch, scoring a go-ahead touchdown with 1:05 remaining in regulation before forcing a fumble to secure the 20-13 victory. “We got a bunch of guys that hate losing, I’ve been saying it all year. This group of seniors, a lot of them have been starting since they were sophomores and they’ve been through a lot,” said TCU head coach Matt Collins after the win. “Their sophomore year, we went one and eight, but they made a decision that we’re done losing. They don’t lose in practice, and they refuse to lose at the end of games, and it really just comes down to that.” With the win, the Titans advance to the Section 3AAA Championship game where they will face
