EAB DISCOVERED IN RENVILLE COUNTY
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has detected the presence of Emerald Ash Borer in Renville County for the first time. According to the DNR and U.S Forest Service, large infestations of EAB were found in Danube along Highway 212. The MDA is enacting the emergency quarantines of Renville County which will limit the movement of firewood, mulch and all ash material out of the affected areas. EAB was also found in Pine County bringing the total number of counties with EAB to 50.
Winthrop tables motion to appoint new council member
The Winthrop City Council was expected to appoint a new City Council member at its regular meeting on Monday evening but that issue was tabled after a vote failed. Three members of the community had submitted applications for the Council position. They were each to be allowed two minutes at the Monday meeting to give a short presentation and the Council was given the opportunity to ask questions.

School building projects highlight February board meeting
The GFW School Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 20th. During Superintendent Jeff Horton’s report, it was stated that the bid opening for the new school was pushed back a week because an addendum was completed. The opening will be online and then the bids will be provided to the School Board with the approval of bids at the March 18th regular meeting.

Nicollet School updating playground equipment
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Early Childhood Center in Nicollet received a $32,000 grant for new playground equipment. When finished, the playground equipment will be safer, allowing for babies under a year old to use it as well as children with disablities. Kendra Hoffman has been the director of the Early Childhood Center since 2021, and since then, she has worked to make the playground accessible to everyone.

High temperature records were set in several locations in Minnesota Monday including tying record high of 68 in New Ulm. Austin was the warm spot in the state reaching 72 degrees Monday. Now we’re in for a quick blast of winter. Weather conditions will deteriorate today (Tuesday) because of a strong cold front moving across the state. Strong winds and colder temperatures will be the norm the rest of today (Tuesday) into Wednesday with even a little snow accumulation possible. Once that is done, temperatures will warm back up Thursday and that warmth will continue right through the weekend.

Babbit man has settlement conference on stalking charges in Renville County Monday
(Olivia MN-) A settlement conference takes place Monday (1 pm) for a Babbit man charged with harassment, stalking and violating a no contact order for allegedly repeatedly contacting an ex-girlfriend in Renville County. The five charges against 34-year-old Nathan Ethen cover a time period of June 13th through July 7th in which he reportedly left phone and text messages for a rural Hector woman. He also reportedly left a bag of snack mix on her porch as a message, and even allegedly put a tracking device on her pickup truck.

SPRING ROAD WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT
Spring road weight restrictions went into effect this (Monday) at 12:01 am. The Brown County Highway Department says the restrictions coincide with weight restrictions imposed by MnDOT in the south zone. All county roadways are restricted to five, seven, nine or ten tons per axle as indicated by posted signs. The weight restriction is five tons per axle on gravel roads. Any Brown County paved road not marked by signs is restricted to ten tons. These limits are imposed to minimize road damage during the spring thaw.
