Avon tries to make it easier for those buying their first home in town
As free market home prices continue to rise in Eagle County, Avon looks to cushion the blow for those buying their first home in the town. Avon collects a 2% real estate transfer tax on every real estate transaction conducted in the town, and the funds go to its Capital Improvement Fund. But the town also has an exemption policy meant to support those buying a primary residence in Avon for the first time.
Letter: Let’s stop the hatred
Good for the town of Vail for canceling the residency of artist Danielle SeeWalker. Calling the war in Gaza a genocide is false and defamatory. Our defense department says there is no evidence of genocide. Let’s stop the hatred and focus on who’s a terrorist and who’s defending their country against a cruel enemy that uses its own people as human shields, keeping them from accessing the food, fuel and shelter that the terrorists are using. Hamas says it wants to kill all Jews. Its members execute people for being gay, they have outlawed abortions and other women’s rights. We don’t need to help them by falsely claiming they’re subject to genocide.

Troy Goldberg had an “a-ha!” moment last summer that changed his summer business plan. Goldberg, the owner of Troy’s Ski Shop on Hanson Ranch Road in Vail Village, had decided earlier in the summer of 2023 to get out of the bicycle rental business. Like snowsports, the bicycle business required new inventory every year. Mechanics were hard to find, as were parts for the new bikes, and switching from summer to winter operations could take weeks.

Annual ‘Huskies and Heroes’ golf tournament in Vail benefits students and soldiers
The annual Huskies and Heroes Golf Tournament was born of a couple of good intentions. One of those came from Vail Realty founder Bart Cuomo’s stint as an assistant football coach at Battle Mountain, where he learned about the lengthy road trips facing athletes, and the high costs of equipment and fees. The other good intention came from a desire to provide a bit of fun to active duty military members — mostly from the U.S. Army’s facility at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs.

It’s hard to imagine Eagle Valley’s Armando Fuentes without a happy-go-lucky smile and goofy quip at the ready. Even after Friday’s strange 800-meter final at the Colorado High School state track and field meet, the senior — who placed seventh in a time of 1 minute, 57.90 seconds — was as chill as ever, grinning from ear to ear.
