Power restored after lightning causes widespread TMLP power outage

Taunton and surrounding communities faced a widespread power outage that impacted approximately 10,000 customers from noon to 2 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 6, a TMLP spokesperson said. The Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant , in a social media post on Friday, Nov. 6, said the power outage affected Raynham, Taunton, East Taunton, and Lakeville." TMLP attributed the outage to "a lightning strike to a National Grid transmission line." A spokesperson for Taunton Public Schools said that multiple schools were using backup power during the outage and that the phone system was down. Paying off high school debt early Taunton dips into savings to give homeowners property tax relief TMLP service area TMLP provides electricity to Taunton, Berkley and Raynham and parts of Dighton, Lakeville and Bridgewater, according to the TMLP website. East Greenwich Car Wash on First Avenue reopened Monday, Nov. 2, after being closed Friday through Sunday following a visit by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Oct. 29. Jamie Perez, who was working at the car wash this past week, said his father, uncle and stepbrother were the ones picked up by ICE; all three are from Guatemala. His stepbrother, Gabriel Mendez Ajqui, was released within a day or so of his detention. He was back at the car wash this week, working with Jamie.
