Restored and remastered, ‘Stop Making Sense,’ is now showing downtown at the Providence Place Cinemas, in IMAX 2D. Newly restored to 4K to coincide with its 40th anniversary, the live performance was filmed over the course of three nights in Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983. More important than the size of the screen is the all-enveloping boom of the speaker system. The sound for “U2/3D” and “Shine a Light” was probably better than the live experience, and the bathrooms are cleaner.
