This week in Providence, Rhode Island, there were three notable incidents. A man was shot in the head near Friendship and Pearl streets, but is currently in stable condition. Another incident involved an 18-year-old man who crashed into a Hartford police cruiser, resulting in the death of a detective and injury to another officer. The driver was charged with manslaughter and other counts. Restored and remastered, ‘Stop Making Sense,’ is now showing downtown at the Providence Place Cinemas, in IMAX 2D. Newly restored to 4K to coincide with its 40th anniversary, the live performance was filmed over the course of three nights in Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983. More important than the size of the screen is the all-enveloping boom of the speaker system. The sound for “U2/3D” and “Shine a Light” was probably better than the live experience, and the bathrooms are cleaner.
