Fire tears through Providence homeless encampment
PROVIDENCE − Firefighters doused a blaze that engulfed an encampment in woods on Smithfield Avenue near North Main Street. They went to the fire around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Fire Chief Derek Silva said it wasn't clear how many tents were involved. Whoever was staying in the encampment left the scene before firefighters arrived.
