St. Mary's football downs Lincoln to claim 12th straight TCAL title
Every great rivalry has its history, its proximity and, perhaps most importantly, its competition. But for two Stockton schools separated by just three miles, that final ingredient had been missing for quite some time. St. Mary's had beaten Lincoln 20 consecutive times, a streak dating to 2005. Friday night was no different. In the rivalry's 72nd meeting , St. Mary's defeated Lincoln 42-27 at Sanguinetti Field for its 21st straight victory over the Trojans, 62nd consecutive TCAL win and 12th straight outright league championship. "I trust these guys with my life," senior defensive back Nate Nemee said. "Our belief in each other, our camaraderie, it just showed tonight. From when we're freshmen to senior night, our last home game, it's the standard that's instilled in us. A standard of greatness." And defensively, the Rams wasted little time putting that standard on display. With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, St. Mary's had built a 28-0 lead, and the interceptions kept coming. Nemee picked off Lincoln quarterback Julian Perez for the second time, giving the Rams four interceptions after sophomore Titan Grant and senior Braylon Lindsey had each recorded one. "We work our tails off all year long

‘Not going to stop': Sacramento business owner vows to open as planned despite break in
The owner of a cafe specializing in gourmet cinnamon rolls said the store was burglarized just a week before the official opening date. The owner of Cinnapop Cafe, Chhayleang Tang, posted on Instagram that the midtown Sacramento storefront was broken into on Nov. 4, sharing video of the shop’s shattered glass door. Tang said the burglary happened some time after 10 p.m. Wednesday, and that equipment and tools were taken. “What makes this situation especially heartbreaking is that we haven’t even officially opened our doors yet,” Tang said online. “We are still in the early stages of establishing our business, preparing for our grand opening, and working tirelessly to turn our dream into reality.” In an interview with The Sacramento Bee, Tang said construction equipment was stolen, including a tool cart, a drill and a saw kit. She did not put a dollar amount on the stolen items. Prior to Wednesday’s break-in, Tang posted about her excitement over the new venture, “We can’t wait to welcome you into our new space and become part of your everyday moments,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. Every bit of love and encouragement means more than

Sacramento City Unified school leaders clash with city, police over ICE notification
Sacramento City Unified School District leaders are pressing city officials to notify schools when federal immigration agents are operating nearby. SCUSD Superintendent Cancy McArn sent a letter Friday morning to City Manager Maraskeshia Smith requesting a meeting with Smith, Mayor Kevin McCarty, interim Police Chief Zachary Bales and several City Council members to “strengthen communication” with the district’s Safe Schools department. “Recent ICE enforcement activity, including the well-documented activity near Ethel Phillips Elementary School, has raised significant concerns about the fear and uncertainty experienced by our families and the lack of communication with the district,” she wrote. McArn’s letter was a formal request for a meeting, but school board trustee and civil rights attorney Jasjit Singh took a firmer stance amid surging federal immigration enforcement in the capital region. “Communicate with the school district — we don’t need kids walking past masked individuals holding guns,” he said. Singh and two other trustees addressed the City Council last week after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were spotted near the south Sacramento school, causing confusion and concern among students and families during afterschool pickup. They asked city officials to notify the district when Sacramento police become aware of immigration enforcement
