Sitting on a beach reading a 800 + page long biography, Lin Manuel Miranda thought “This is my next show.” That little idea exploded into the international mega hit musical, Hamilton. The concept, to others, wasn’t clear how it would work- a hip hop musical about a lesser known founding father initially was a hard sell. However Manuel kept writing, composing, cutting and rewriting. The process of creating new works has creatives endlessly invest in their piece and then it’s time for a test drive, to see the successes, failures and what can be improved. Pieces are tested in friends’ living rooms, basements, comedy clubs and theatrical workshops, which is what the Toledo Rep is currently working on.

Tasting Toledo: Food influencer showcases the local food scene
What started as a search for the best smashburger in the area turned into a review of all kinds of restaurants for Michelle Duni. The Toledo native started sharing her findings on social media under the username “She’s Eating It” in February, 2025 on Instagram and Facebook. In March, 2025 she started her TikTok account, with her page now having over 12,000 followers in just over a year. Toledo is often associated with chain restaurants, which wasn't always the case, Duni said. She wants her platform to shift the narrative to focus on the good, local food Toledo has to offer in its chef-owned spots, unassuming eateries, decade-old diners, and more. “I started to realize how I can affect businesses,” she said, noting she tries not to post negative reviews because she knows how that can hurt local restaurants. “What I will do is promote the places that I do like and are good.” What matters more than getting it right the first time is that restaurants work to get better, she said, adding, “I don’t get it right the first time either. ... I still burn things.” One of Duni’s first viral videos was a TikTok post on Taqueria

A small army of leprechauns with lunch at Shellukes
FREMONT – It was only March 5 and the leprechauns were already lined up on the bar like a happy little army when I stopped by Shellukes Bar and Grill. I was there for lunch and grabbed Buffalo chicken wrap with curly fries on my break between covering some Sandusky County stories. Owner Shelley Hoppes sat down to talk about her little friends and all the emerald-green decorations going up. She said that St. Patrick’s Day is one of her favorite holidays. "I just really like all the decorating and celebrating, even if you aren't Irish," Hoppes said. Hoppes said she doesn’t know what the biggest party day will be in Fremont this year, as St. Patrick’s Day is on a Tuesday, but they are getting ready for any possible celebrations. Shellukes will serve Reuben's and Jigg's dinners on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, and they will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., their normal hours. Green beer is expected to be on tap. Hoppes said that it was strangely unavailable last year. The Buffalo chicken wrap was tasty, with large chunks of crispy fried chicken. I ordered the curly fries and they were just right. This was

Coffee Quest 419 provides valuable exposure for coffee shops off the beaten path
Every year, hundreds of coffee lovers in the Toledo area explore locales they have and haven’t been to before during Coffee Quest 419. The annual hunt for coffee sees shops exposed to new and old customers alike. Grindhrs, House of Coffee, and Brew House Downtown can expect to benefit greatly, but it’s the shops outside of Toledo proper that appreciate the exposure the most. Caryl Stone, owner of Random Acts of Walbridge, said people usually have to go out of their way to find her store. “We’re very small compared to everybody else,” Ms. Stone said. “We might be the smallest. We are in a small town, so people have to want to come. You don’t drive by it.” The same goes for CK Sweets Coffee & Bakeshop in Swanton, owner Cat Kania said. “It’s nice because it gets people out this way that wouldn’t necessarily come out this way from Toledo, and we even see people from Southern Michigan,” Mrs. Kania said of the benefits of Coffee Quest 419. “It brings more people to our small town that we wouldn’t normally see here.” This year’s Coffee Quest 419, which runs from March 14 to June 14, invites shoppers to
