Road Warrior: Intersection work to start at Monroe and Douglas
With work now finished at Cherry and Bancroft streets, the second half of a city contract for rebuilding two intersections starts Tuesday at Monroe Street and Douglas Road. The Toledo Department of Transportation advised motorists to expect lane closings there for the next six weeks. Don’t plan on using Sylvania Avenue as an alternate route on Tuesday. City officials announced separately that lane closings are planned that day only at Buell Avenue for work associated with water line and roadway reconstruction. Buell is just west of Douglas on Sylvania. Beyond that, Sylvania or Central avenues are the best alternatives to Monroe between Secor Road and the ProMedica Toledo Hospital area during this work. For traffic that uses the Douglas Road ramps on I-475, such as University of Toledo commuters, the best alternative route is ProMedica Parkway and Central Avenue to Douglas. Upton Avenue is a local alternative to the affected portion of Douglas. **** A long-planned removal of Central Avenue’s bridge over Buckeye Street near I-280 also is scheduled to start this week. City officials said in 2019 that they planned to eliminate the bridge, which was at the time one of a handful Toledo bridges rated in poor condition,

Toledo streets to close Sunday for 2 events
Parts of several Toledo streets will be closed Sunday for special events, the Toledo Department of Transportation announced. Upton Avenue will close from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. between North Cove Boulevard and Ottawa Drive for the Northern Ohio Mountain Bike Series and the Black Swamp Riders Battle of Toledo 2026. Emergency vehicle access to ProMedica Toledo Hospital will be maintained. Three streets will close between 10 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., meanwhile, for the Believe Center and El Corazon de Mexico Grito Fest. Those streets are Harrison Street between Erie and Oliver streets, Oliver Street between Emerald Avenue and its dead end at I-75, and St. Clair Street between Hobart Street and its dead end at I-75. Detour routes will not be posted for either event.

Labor Day weekend marks first weekend without full closure of I-475 in Perrysburg
After eight weekends of closures and months of construction, drivers are getting a break. This Labor Day weekend marks the first weekend without a full closure on I-475 from the US 24 interchange to Dixie Highway in Perrysburg since ODOT's major resurfacing project began earlier this year. Roadway work to partially close 3 Toledo streets
Parts of three Toledo streets will be closed Thursday and Friday for pavement restoration, the Toledo Department of Transportation announced. In South Toledo, Copland Boulevard’s eastbound lane will be closed between Rugby Drive and Detroit Avenue, and Rugby will be closed at Copland, for work associated with Copland’s recent reconstruction. Copland will be detoured via Detroit and the Anthony Wayne Trail. In East Toledo, Starr Avenue will be closed between Willard and Plymouth streets, with traffic detoured to Nevada Street between East Broadway and White streets, officials said. Starr will also be closed Tuesday in the same area, they said.
