The Charlotte 49ers have just been approved for a $60 million phase one expansion to their football stadium.

Jerry Richardson Stadium was built in 2012, just before Charlotte's inaugural football season in 2013. Its current capacity is just north of 15,000. The first phase of construction will increase the total capacity to 18,170, with a second phase of construction to come in the future.

Other phase one additions to the stadium will include a new tower with press box and premium seating, a number of suites, club-level seating, a team dining area, and more.

The multiphase expansion will begin following the 2024 season with no specific start date given. It is expected to take 12-15 years to complete.

Axios Charlotte was the first to report the news, posting about it on social media. "Charlotte 49ers stadium will recieve a $60M expansion."

In the 12 seasons of Charlotte football, the 49ers have made it to one bowl game (2019 Bahamas Bowl), but are yet to take home any hardware.
