The Athens unemployment rate saw a slight increase last month, while the number of jobs and the labor force continued to rise. Athens recorded an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in March, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. Athens-Clarke County residents can start casting their votes next week for the upcoming general primary. Early voting begins on Monday, April 29 and ends on Friday, May 17. Local ballot measures include races for county commissioners in districts 2, 6 and 8 and a democratic primary for Clarke County sheriff, coroner and tax commissioner. However, there are no republicans running against the democratic primary candidates, so this election will decide the outcome.
