CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A Cedar Rapids man charged in a 17-year-old cold case was found guilty of first degree murder by a Linn County judge on Monday. Curtis Padgett, 42, beat and stabbed Dennis First to death inside his apartment at the Hawthorne Hills Apartments on C Street SW in Cedar Rapids in May 2007. Padgett was not charged in the case until March 2023.
