Wagswoofs – A 21-year-old woman has admitted her involvement in a shooting that took place at an Iowa City Casey’s in April. Makiya Hoffman from Cedar Rapids admitted her guilt to the charge of reckless use of a firearm causing property damage, which is classified as an aggravated misdemeanor. In April, Hoffman was apprehended and initially faced additional charges of using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. However, those charges were dropped as part of her guilty plea.

An Iowa cold case, unsolved since the 1970s, came to a shocking conclusion this week thanks to new DNA evidence from a California serial killer case. CBS2 reports that the news is finally bringing closure to the family of Michael Ray Schlicht, who was just 17 years old when he went missing in April of 1974. Officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Department say that it now appears that the Cedar Rapids native was likely one of the first victims of one the most prolific serial killers in U.S. history.

Things start off chilly this morning, but not quite the same bitter cold as we experienced just 24 hours ago. Instead, wind chills in the upper single digits to upper 10s can be expected as you head out to work and school. A warm front is moving through the region this morning, which will help pull in a slightly warmer air mass with it. With full sunshine for a good portion of the day, this will push temperatures back into the upper 30s to mid 40s around the TV9 viewing area. Expect a reduction in our snow cover as a result.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Iowa's News Now) — A Cedar Rapids man who confessed to stabbing his wife multiple times, now wants the confession retracted. 34-year-old Anthony Depolis was arrested back in 2020 and charged with attempted murder, willful injury, and assault displaying a dangerous weapon. According to court documents, Depolis says he unknowingly waived his Miranda rights at the time due to his mental health.
