Clackamas County faces legal fight with Boring equestrian center
Clackamas County is caught in a legal fight with the owners of a decades-old equestrian and event space in the small town of Boring. The county moved last month to shut down the Mt. Hood Center, posting red notices around the 18-acre facility along U.S 26, where attendees have enjoyed horse shows, barrel racing, riding clinics and other equestrian events for decades. It also sued the facility owners, alleging they’d violated county code by hosting events with too many people.
19-year-old who escaped from MacLaren in custody; one still at large
A 19-year-old who escaped with two others in February from MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn is in custody in Marion County. Julian Diaz-Navarro, of Salem, was arrested on an escape warrant and booked Tuesday into Marion County Jail. He was serving a sentence at MacLaren for attempted assault 1 and carry/use of a dangerous weapon and now faces new adult escape charges.

The sun goes through an 11-year cycle of activity where more sunspots, solar flares, and stronger solar winds ebb and flow. Now, through the year 2026, the sun will be near peak solar activity. That was the case Friday, May 10 when the aurora borealis was seen over much of the continental U.S. after sunset.
