Akron General doctor named AAP community pediatrician of the year
A Cleveland Clinic Akron General doctor has been named the Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics' 2026 community pediatrician of the year. Dr. Maureen Ahmann is the hospital's department of pediatrics chair and the Stark County Health Department's medical director. She received the award for her commitment to children's health in the Akron area, according to a news release. The award is given to a physician or partner each year to recognize their community commitment and work improving the health and safety of Ohio's adolescents. Ahmann started Akron's Grow with Us Garden outside her clinic, which she uses to provide patients and their families free fruits, vegetables and herbs. It's also used to teach families how to grow food at home. She has been in practice for over 20 years, the release said. "We are proud to honor Dr. Ahmann for her commitment to public health and to expanding access to healthy food for families," Melissa Wervey Gittelman, CEO of Ohio AAP said in the release. "This award recognizes her innovation and her work helping families discover sustainable ways to be healthy."
